Lake Zurich has no Metra station and has not had rail service in over a century. The Palatine, Lake Zurich & Wauconda Railroad arrived in 1910 and closed in 1920. What that means practically is that nearly twenty thousand residents drive or are driven to Barrington station on the UP-NW line, and station transfers here are one of our steadiest bookings.
The second thing to know is recent. Main Street was rebuilt in 2025 in a $13.16 million redesign that runs from the lakeside promenade to Church Street and deliberately narrows the roadway to ten feet, with widened sidewalks, a landscaped median and angled parking. It is a better street and a tighter one. Pickups downtown need a designated point rather than a driver hunting a gap.
Third, and it catches out-of-town services regularly: Village Code 6-8B-1 prohibits parking on village streets, rights-of-way and lots for more than fifteen minutes between 2:00am and 5:00am. An early airport run cannot involve a car sitting outside your house at 4:15 waiting. We time arrival to the minute instead.
