Lakewood's defining access feature is that much of its Crystal Lake frontage is privately held. The small parks, beaches and boat docks along the South Shore are maintained for members rather than open to the public, and a driver who assumes public lakefront access will be waiting in the wrong place.
The village's two golf clubs are the main event addresses: RedTail Golf Club at 7900 RedTail Drive and Turnberry Golf Club at 9600 Turnberry Trail. Note the second one — it was Turnberry Country Club and is still listed that way in plenty of directories.
One correction worth making because it is repeated everywhere: Crystal Lake Country Club, at 721 Country Club Road, is in Crystal Lake, not Lakewood. It sits just south of the village line. We say so because getting a club's municipality wrong is exactly the kind of small error that tells a client you are not local.

Pingree Road, on the UP-NW line in Crystal Lake, with published daily parking of $1.50 through the Parkmobile app. The downtown Crystal Lake station is the alternative.
